In the past generation we’ve seen the amount of sugar we consume grow exponentially. Until recently, we had been eating sugar mainly found naturally in foods. It was used as a treat or in small quantities and was never a problem. But today, over a third of the calories we consume come from sugar or white flour, which is highly refined and acts just like sugar in our system. Our bodies cannot cope with such an enormous load. Sugar gives you an initial high, then you crash, then you crave more, so you consume more sugar. It’s this series of highs and lows that provoke unnecessary stress on your adrenals. You get anxious, moody (sugar is a mood-altering drug) and eventually you feel exhausted.

Sugar is also associated with many chronic problems that include decreased immunity, some chronic infections, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, diabetes, pain syndromes, irritable bowel syndrome, ADD, chronic fatigue, and candida. Research suggests that one of the main causes for decreased immunity is that sugars inhibit the entrance of Vitamin C into white blood cells, which then inhibits immunity. The more sugar, the less productive your white blood cells are and thus, the less immune you are. Furthermore, sugars stimulate insulin secretion in the pancreas, which in turn stimulates the liver’s triglyceride production. Triglycerides are linked to stroke, heart disease and obesity. The list goes on and on. This week, Dr. Frank Lipman provides us with all the info on how to curb a sugar addiction.

Sally-Eggen-1_400I love good coffee! I love the taste…. yum…. and oh the energy. So I am always on the search for articles by the experts that tell us the benefits of coffee. Research shows that coffee protects against a variety of ailments  from cavities to colon cancer. And some studies suggest that the more you drink, the better: The beverage lowers your risk of type 2 diabetes and can protect your liver from damage, too. Caffeine gets the credit for some of coffee’s magic powers, including  protection against Parkinsons’ disease and gallstones. But coffee’s main benefit comes from its wealth of antioxidants. In fact, the coffee Bean, which is technically a berry has one of the highest antioxidant contents of all berries.

I’ve always been a super chemically sensitive person and have to be careful what I put in and on me. So, Bromide was just another one of those things I just stayed away from but there are some things I didn't even know had Bromide in them. Good to know.

Thyroid

Bromides are a common endocrine disruptor. Because bromide is also a halide, it competes for the same receptors that are used in the thyroid gland (among other places) to capture iodine. This will inhibit thyroid hormone production resulting in a low thyroid state.

Iodine is essential for your body, and is detected in every organ and tissue. There is increasing evidence that low iodine is related to numerous diseases, including cancer.  Various clinicians and researchers have found iodine effective with everything from goiter to constipation.

Bromide can be found in several forms. Methyl Bromide is a pesticide used mainly on strawberries, found predominantly in the California areas. Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) is added to citrus drinks to help suspend the flavoring in the liquid.

I tried everything to get my energy back after suffering adrenal fatigue. The first thing every doctor checked was my thyroid. My thyroid though was always in the normal range but on the low side for my blood tests. My blood tests were actually getting worse over a three year period but they were still in the normal range. I kinda always hoped it would be bad, I thought it would be a good excuse for never being skinny enough, bad girl huh? But one day at a Health Expo, I met a man who worked for a company called ZRT Labortories and they do saliva hormone tests. I was given a test to take home with me, immediately did the test and sent it in. Within a couple of weeks, I found that my tests were a lot lower then I thought and Joe (Dr. Mercola) suggested I try  armour thyroid. I got a  renewed sense of energy within a few days.

Joe and I traveled to India in November 08, what a amazing trip. Organic India invited us as guests to join their Tulsi Mahotsava (Tulsi Harvest Feast). What an enlightening experience , not only because it was a unbelievable country but I learned so much about this wonderful philanthropic company that was giving so much to the world.

  1. Get the nutrition you need & enjoy tastier food

Many studies have shown that organically grown food has more minerals and nutrients than food grown with synthetic pesticides. And there’s a good reason why many chefs use organic foods in their recipes -- they taste better.

  2. Save money

Growing your own food can help cut the cost of your grocery bill.

  3. Protect future generations

The average child receives four times more exposure than an adult to at least eight widely used cancer-causing pesticides in food.
