Tips to Transform a Space
Rearranging furniture is one of the easiest ways to give a space an entirely new look, but many people do not have a clue on how to arrange furniture. The way in which furniture is arranged can make or break the look of a room, and no matter how well the walls are decorated, and no matter how classy the furniture is, it will not look nearly as stylish or elegant if it is not appropriately arranged. Instead of simply lining the walls with furniture and other belongings, consider the following tips on rearranging a space for a completely new look. Rearranging is by far the least expensive way to transform the look of an area within the home, and after rearranging it truly will look and feel brand new.
Find the Focal Point
Look around your home, and consider the focal point in each room. Does each separate space even have a focal point? A focal point can be anything from a rustic fireplace complete with a decked out mantel to a stunning work of three dimensional metal wall art. A focal point could be a display created with wrought iron wall decor or a simple window with a beautiful view. If the area you plan on rearranging does not have a focal point, create one, and give each room or space in your home its own special decorative touch before rearranging furniture.
After determining a focal point, the next step is to begin rearranging the space around that focal point. Move large pieces of furniture first, and leave plenty of space for navigating the room. As a rule, paths should be at least two feet wide, and for comfortable conversation, furniture should be within an eight foot range. When rearranging a large room, furniture can be moved out from the walls, and an area for conversation can be created in the center with a walking path around the perimeter. This is a great way to make an extra large space warm and cozy in appearance.
Save your Back, and Make a Paper Template
Rearranging heavy furniture is as hard on furniture and flooring as well as the back, and making a paper template of a room before rearranging furniture and other room decor is worth the time and effort. Use graph paper, and map out the room before moving anything. Take into consideration the location of doorways, windows, vents, outlets, and anything else that is permanent. Making a paper template will allow you to decide on the most ideal location for furniture and other furnishings without breaking your back or your home furnishings.
Create Balance in the Room
When rearranging furniture and deciding on locations, keep in mind the importance of balance. Avoid placing pieces of the same height or pieces that are heavy in appearance all on one side of the room. Disperse furniture and accessories of various sizes and heights evenly throughout the room for balance and visual appeal.
Whether rearranging furniture in a bedroom, living room, or even an office, once everything is properly arranged, you will feel as if the room is entirely new. A well arranged room will look comfortable and exceptionally appealing. This is by far the easiest and most inexpensive way to give a tired looking room a little pizzazz, and best of all, remodeling and completely redecorating is not required.
